I did it, I either lost my mind, or followed my heart to the next step....

I REGISTERED for an Ultra, it's been a goal in the makeing.. Iv'e obsessed over races, debated distances, looked into traveling costs, race costs, terrain reviews and everything beyond.

But I finally found the perfect 1st time ultra, 50k with so many goods:

-$45 (yeah, that says forty five dollars!)
-It's in the LBC (my old stompping grounds I called home) So I am uber familiar with the area, parking etc.
-It takes place on a beach path (that you run 3 times) *Note this is a little scary mentally, but I think I will build on the mental distance and repetitive runs this summer while I train.
-The race is really really small, and so is the community based couple that puts it on, the company is called Rocket Racing Productions, they are all about happy, no pressure, community loving affordable races.

-Since Rocket Racing is not some huuuuuge race company and they limit most races to 50 peeps, this allows them to cater to all runners! If you want cookies, they will have cookies for you at an aid station, if you know you need your gu it's be waiting for you, or your special drink, its there.. WHO DOES THIS?!
-Race photos are free?! What the heck!?
-On a personal training note, this race will work out swimmingly with another adventure I have up my sleeve to be announced soon :)

Please Please Please comment if you have ever run an ultra, or know some one that has, with any and all comments, advice and experience, I would love to know!

Awesome, awesome, awesome. You're going to love the 50k. Did my first a couple months back, also a small affair (35 signed up, 27 showed up), and it was great. That sounds like a great race. Good luck with training!

Fantastic! I've done plenty ultras. For the 50k you don't need much more training than for the marathon. Maybe an extra long run of about 35 - 40km. (23 - 25 miles). You'll find the lap course the best for support and atmosphere. You'll come out of this race hooked on ultras.

Sounds like a really nice race!

Nice! I agree with the comment above...trail like you're running a marathon. You'll be hooked after your first one.

*train (although trail kind of fits, too).

I've never even toyed with an ultra -but if one was to do it, this is certainly the right one! I'm already deciding what cookies I'd want and at what times!
